Big things are happening all across Walt Disney World right now—and Disney’s Animal Kingdom is no exception. While Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios both have major expansions in the works, Animal Kingdom is quietly making progress on its newest land: Pueblo Esperanza.
This upcoming area is inspired by the Tropical Americas and will bring some long-anticipated additions to the park, including the first-ever Encanto attraction and a brand-new Indiana Jones ride (which will be different from the version at Disneyland). Along with those headline attractions, the land will also include new dining, shopping, and a themed playground designed especially for younger adventurers.
New Permit, New Clues 👀
Disney recently filed updated wastewater permit plans with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and those documents give us our clearest look yet at how Pueblo Esperanza will be laid out—particularly where the new playground will sit.
According to the permit, the playground will be built along the former Cretaceous Trail, the pathway that once connected Dinosaur to Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures in DinoLand, U.S.A.
What the Playground Could Look Like
The newly filed documents suggest the playground may feel similar to the former Boneyard playground, which was a longtime favorite for families before being demolished to make way for a carousel. Plans indicate multiple slides, climbing structures, and interactive play areas, all themed to the Tropical Americas setting.
If this ends up being anything like the Boneyard—but with updated theming and design—it could be a great place for kids to burn off some energy while adults explore the rest of the land. We always need rest!
DinoLand’s Final Chapter
As Pueblo Esperanza continues to take shape, DinoLand, U.S.A. has been closing in phases. The remaining attractions—including Dinosaur—officially closing on February 2 (insert cry here), clearing the way for the transformation of the ride into the new Indiana Jones attraction. Construction is also ongoing for the Encanto ride, along with additional dining and retail locations. So as of now, there are a lot of construction aka "wallways."
When Will Pueblo Esperanza Open?
Disney has not announced an official opening date just yet, but progress is clearly underway. Between permit filings and visible construction changes, it’s obvious that this new land is moving from concept to reality.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on any new updates—and as soon as Disney shares more details, you can bet we’ll break it all down. Stay tuned… the future of Animal Kingdom is looking muy emocionante. 🌿✨
